Where Should You Stay in Majorca with a Neurodiverse Child?

When we booked our first holiday abroad with our children, I spent weeks researching hotels. I compared pools, restaurants, children’s clubs and reviews, convinced that choosing the perfect hotel would solve every problem.

Looking back, I realised I’d overlooked something even more important—the location.

For neurodiverse families, the resort you choose can have a huge impact on how calm and enjoyable your holiday feels. A beautiful hotel isn’t much use if it’s surrounded by loud bars, busy roads or crowded beaches that quickly become overwhelming.

If you’re still planning your first trip, I’d recommend reading my guide on Preparing Your Neurodiverse Child for Going on Holiday, which covers everything from introducing the idea of travel to building routines before you leave. It also works well alongside my Complete Guide to Visiting Majorca with a Neurodiverse Child, where I explain why Majorca is one of my favourite destinations for families like ours.

This guide focuses specifically on where to stay in Majorca with children, helping you compare the island’s most popular family resorts and decide whether a hotel, aparthotel or private villa is the best fit for your family.

Remember, there isn’t one “perfect” resort for every neurodiverse child. Every child is different. Some love lively pools and children’s entertainment, while others are happiest somewhere peaceful with plenty of space and predictable routines. The aim is to find the place that best matches your child’s individual needs.

Why Choosing the Right Location Makes Such a Difference

Whenever parents ask me for hotel recommendations, I usually ask a different question first:

“What does your child find difficult?”

The answer often points towards the best resort.

For example:

  • Does your child dislike crowds?

  • Are they sensitive to loud music?

  • Do they need familiar food?

  • Would they cope better walking everywhere rather than taking buses?

  • Do they need regular breaks away from busy environments?

  • Would a quiet beach be better than a waterpark?

Once you know the answers, choosing accommodation becomes much easier.

What We Look For

As a family, these are the things that make holidays much less stressful:

  • Wide beaches with plenty of personal space

  • Calm, shallow water

  • Easy walks rather than busy roads

  • Restaurants serving familiar foods

  • Nearby supermarkets for favourite snacks

  • Quiet evenings

  • Spacious accommodation

  • Medical facilities close by, just in case

  • Short journeys between attractions

These may sound like small details, but together they can make a huge difference to how relaxed everyone feels.

Hotels, Aparthotels or Villas?

Before looking at individual resorts, it’s worth thinking about the type of accommodation that will suit your family.

I’ve written a much more detailed comparison in Private Villas vs Hotels: Which Is Better When Travelling with an Autistic Child Abroad?, but here’s a quick overview.

Hotels

Hotels are a great choice if you want everything organised for you.

Advantages include:

  • All-inclusive dining

  • Entertainment included

  • Kids’ clubs

  • Daily housekeeping

  • No cooking

  • Easy budgeting

They’re often ideal for first-time holidays abroad, especially if you’re looking for a simple, straightforward experience.

The downside is that hotels can sometimes be noisy, particularly around pools and evening entertainment.

Aparthotels

Aparthotels are one of my favourite options for neurodiverse families because they combine the convenience of a hotel with the flexibility of self-catering.

Most offer:

  • Kitchenettes

  • Separate bedrooms

  • Larger living areas

  • Hotel pools

  • Children’s entertainment

  • More flexibility around meals

If your child prefers familiar foods or has a limited diet, having somewhere to prepare breakfast or snacks can make a huge difference. My guide to All-Inclusive vs Self-Catering Holidays with a Neurodiverse Child explores this in more detail.

Private Villas

Many families eventually discover that villas suit them best.

A private villa allows you to create your own routine without worrying about other guests.

Benefits include:

  • Private swimming pool

  • Quiet surroundings

  • Flexible mealtimes

  • No crowded dining rooms

  • Plenty of indoor and outdoor space

  • Familiar daily routines

For children who become overwhelmed by noise, busy pool areas or constant activity, a villa can feel much more like home.

The Best Family Resorts in Majorca

One of the reasons we chose Majorca for our first family holiday abroad is that it offers such a variety of resorts.

Some are lively and full of activities, while others are wonderfully peaceful.

Below are the resorts I recommend most often to families travelling with autistic or otherwise neurodiverse children.

Palma Nova

Palma Nova is one of the most popular places for families visiting Majorca, and for good reason.

Although it’s located next to Magaluf, the atmosphere couldn’t feel more different. Palma Nova has developed into a relaxed, family-focused resort with excellent facilities and beautiful beaches.

If you’re travelling with younger children or you’re nervous about your first trip abroad, Palma Nova offers a reassuring balance between convenience and relaxation.

Atmosphere

The overall atmosphere is friendly, welcoming and easy-going.

You’ll find families strolling along the promenade, children playing on the beach and plenty of restaurants that cater for younger visitors.

Outside the height of the summer holidays, Palma Nova feels particularly calm.

For many neurodiverse children, that slower pace can make a real difference.

The Beach

One of Palma Nova’s biggest strengths is its coastline.

Instead of one large beach, there are three sandy beaches connected by a flat promenade.

The beaches offer:

  • Soft golden sand

  • Gentle, shallow water

  • Lifeguards during the summer

  • Plenty of room to spread out

  • Easy access to cafés and toilets

Because the beaches are so spacious, it’s often possible to move further away from busier areas if your child needs a quieter environment.

Restaurants

Finding familiar food is rarely a problem.

You’ll find plenty of restaurants serving:

  • Pizza

  • Pasta

  • Chicken nuggets

  • Burgers

  • Chips

  • Ice cream

  • British breakfasts

  • Sandwiches

For children who are selective eaters, having familiar options available can reduce a lot of mealtime anxiety.

If food is something your child struggles with, you might also find my article on Neurodiverse Kids Who Are Fussy Eaters helpful before your trip.

Noise Levels

Compared with nearby Magaluf, Palma Nova is much quieter.

Most hotels are family-orientated, and evenings tend to settle down after children’s entertainment finishes.

Choosing accommodation a few streets back from the promenade can make evenings even more peaceful.

Accessibility

One of the things I really like about Palma Nova is how easy it is to get around.

The resort has:

* Wide, flat promenades

* Dropped kerbs throughout

* Pushchair-friendly walkways

* Easy access to the beach

* Plenty of pedestrian areas

If your child enjoys walking or using a scooter, you’ll find the promenade a pleasant place to explore without having to cross lots of busy roads.

For families using wheelchairs or mobility equipment, Palma Nova is also one of the more accessible resorts on the island.

Supermarkets

Being able to buy familiar foods is something I always consider before booking.

Palma Nova has plenty of options including:

* Lidl

* Aldi

* Eroski

* Carrefour Express

* Small convenience stores

You’ll also find British products such as Heinz, Kellogg’s, Walkers crisps and familiar breakfast cereals in many supermarkets.

Having easy access to snacks your child already knows and trusts can make meal times much less stressful.

Medical Facilities

Palma Nova is well served with:

* Several pharmacies

* Local medical centres

* Dentists

* Private clinics

If specialist care is needed, Palma’s larger hospitals are only around 20–25 minutes away by car.

Knowing that help is nearby can provide reassurance if you’re travelling abroad for the first time.

Is Palma Nova Suitable for Sensory-Sensitive Children?

Overall, I’d rate Palma Nova as an excellent choice.

It isn’t completely quiet, but it’s busy in a predictable, family-focused way rather than being chaotic.

Children who enjoy beaches, ice cream stops and evening walks usually settle well here.

If your child finds crowds particularly difficult, visiting in May, June or September rather than the school summer holidays can make the experience even calmer.

Recommended Accommodation

Fergus Style Cala Blanca Suites

This smaller all-inclusive hotel is one I’d recommend for families looking for a quieter atmosphere.

Why it works well:

* Spacious family suites

* Separate bedroom areas

* Smaller scale than many neighbouring hotels

* Close to the beach

* Relaxed pool area

* Easy walking distance to restaurants and supermarkets

For many neurodiverse children, having a little extra space in the room can make bedtime routines much easier.

Alcudia

If someone asked me to recommend just one resort in Majorca for a family travelling with autistic children, Alcudia would almost always be near the top of my list.

It combines one of Europe’s finest beaches with excellent family facilities, spacious accommodation and a relaxed atmosphere.

There is plenty to do, but it never feels overwhelmingly busy.

Atmosphere

Port d’Alcudia is built around a long sandy bay, marina and family-friendly promenade.

Unlike some resorts, there isn’t a heavy nightlife scene.

Instead you’ll find:

* Families cycling

* Evening beach walks

* Outdoor cafés

* Children’s playgrounds

* Harbour restaurants

Everything feels designed with families in mind.

The Beach

The beach is one of the biggest reasons families return year after year.

It offers:

* Soft white sand

* Exceptionally shallow water

* Gentle waves

* Plenty of open space

* Lifeguards

* Accessible boardwalks

The sea stays shallow for a long distance, making it particularly suitable for younger children who enjoy paddling.

Many sensory-sensitive children also find the calm water less intimidating than beaches with stronger waves.

Restaurants

Alcudia has one of the widest selections of family restaurants anywhere in Majorca.

You’ll easily find:

* Pizza

* Pasta

* Burgers

* Toasties

* Chicken dishes

* Buffet restaurants

* British cafés

* Ice cream parlours

If your child has a limited diet, eating out here is usually straightforward.

For additional ideas on managing mealtimes abroad, take a look at my guide to Eating Out with Neurodiverse Children Abroad, where I share some of the strategies that have worked well for our family.

Noise Levels

Although Alcudia is a popular resort, it rarely feels overly loud.

The marina has a little more activity in the evenings, while residential hotel areas remain much quieter.

Choosing accommodation slightly away from the busiest restaurants often provides the best balance.

Accessibility

This is one of the easiest resorts in Majorca to navigate.

Highlights include:

* Wide promenades

* Flat pavements

* Accessible beaches

* Plenty of pedestrian routes

* Cycle paths

* Easy walking between hotels, restaurants and shops

Families who prefer not to hire a car can comfortably spend an entire holiday here.

Supermarkets

Large supermarkets include:

* Mercadona

* Lidl

* Eroski

There are also plenty of smaller convenience stores dotted throughout the resort.

If your child relies on favourite snacks or specific brands, you’ll usually be able to find them here.

Medical Facilities

Alcudia has excellent healthcare provision for visitors.

You’ll find:

* Multiple pharmacies

* Medical centres

* Private clinics

* Easy access to hospitals in the north of the island

This makes it a reassuring choice for families travelling abroad with younger children.

Is Alcudia Suitable for Sensory-Sensitive Children?

Absolutely.

The combination of spacious beaches, calm water and wide promenades means there are very few situations where families feel cramped or rushed.

There are also lots of opportunities to take sensory breaks, whether that’s a quiet walk along the marina or simply moving to a quieter section of the beach.

It’s one of the reasons Alcudia regularly appears in recommendations for autism-friendly hotels in Majorca.

Recommended Accommodation

Zafiro Palace Alcudia

One of the island’s highest-rated family hotels.

Highlights include:

* Spacious family suites

* Swim-up room options

* Multiple swimming pools

* Splash areas

* Excellent buffet restaurant

* Beautiful landscaped gardens

Despite its size, the hotel has enough outdoor space that it rarely feels crowded.

Many families appreciate the quieter garden areas where children can decompress after a busy morning.

PortBlue Club Pollentia Resort

Although technically located between Alcudia and Puerto Pollensa, this resort deserves a special mention.

It’s set away from the busiest tourist areas and offers:

* Extensive gardens

* Nature reserve surroundings

* Spacious accommodation

* Multiple pools

* Quiet walking paths

* Relaxed atmosphere

For children who benefit from lower stimulation levels, it’s one of the calmest large resorts in northern Majorca.

Playa de Muro

Just south of Alcudia lies Playa de Muro, often considered one of the island’s most peaceful beach resorts.

Many families choose Playa de Muro because it offers the same beautiful coastline as Alcudia but with a noticeably quieter atmosphere.

If your child becomes overwhelmed by busy promenades or large crowds, this is definitely a resort worth considering.

Atmosphere

Playa de Muro is relaxed, spacious and peaceful.

Instead of rows of bars and entertainment venues, you’ll find:

* Beachfront hotels

* Pine trees

* Nature reserves

* Quiet walkways

* Family-friendly cafés

It’s somewhere that encourages slower days rather than packed itineraries.

For families following the advice in my Creating Child-Centred Holidays for Neurodiverse Families guide, Playa de Muro is an excellent example of putting your child’s sensory needs at the centre of your holiday planning.

The Beach

The beach here is exceptional.

Expect:

* Powder-soft sand

* Crystal-clear water

* Gentle slope into the sea

* Plenty of room to spread out

* Calm swimming conditions

It’s one of those beaches where children can happily spend hours building sandcastles without feeling overcrowded.

## Restaurants

Although Playa de Muro has fewer restaurants than Alcudia, you'll still find plenty of family-friendly options within walking distance of most hotels.

Many restaurants offer:

- Pizza

- Pasta

- Grilled chicken

- Chips

- Fresh bread

- Ice cream

- Children's menus

Most hotels also have excellent buffet restaurants with plenty of choice, which can be reassuring if your child likes to stick to familiar foods.

If eating out feels overwhelming, many families choose to have breakfast and lunch at the hotel before enjoying a simple evening meal nearby. Keeping meal routines as predictable as possible can really help reduce anxiety.

## Noise Levels

This is where Playa de Muro really stands out.

Unlike some of the busier resorts, evenings are generally quiet.

There are no large nightclub areas, and entertainment tends to stay within individual hotels.

For children who are sensitive to loud music or lots of background noise, Playa de Muro is one of the calmest resorts on the island.

## Accessibility

The resort is easy to explore on foot.

You'll find:

- Flat pavements

- Boardwalks to the beach

- Pushchair-friendly paths

- Wide walkways

- Easy access to hotels and restaurants

Because everything is relatively close together, families rarely need to use transport once they've arrived.

## Supermarkets

There are several small supermarkets throughout Playa de Muro selling everyday essentials.

For larger food shops, Mercadona and Eroski in nearby Alcudia are only a short drive away.

If your child prefers familiar brands or particular snacks, it's easy to stock up at the beginning of your holiday.

## Medical Facilities

Playa de Muro has local pharmacies, while nearby Alcudia offers:

- Medical centres

- Private clinics

- Larger pharmacies

Emergency healthcare is also easily accessible if required.

## Is Playa de Muro Suitable for Sensory-Sensitive Children?

In my opinion, this is one of the best resorts in Majorca for neurodiverse families.

The quieter atmosphere, beautiful beach and slower pace create a relaxing environment where children have plenty of space to regulate themselves.

If your child enjoys spending time outdoors and prefers calm surroundings over busy entertainment, Playa de Muro is an excellent choice.

# Puerto Pollensa

Puerto Pollensa feels very different from many of Majorca's larger resorts.

Rather than focusing on entertainment, it offers a slower pace of life, beautiful scenery and a relaxed waterfront that's ideal for family strolls.

If your child enjoys quiet environments and doesn't need lots of organised activities, Puerto Pollensa is definitely worth considering.

## Atmosphere

The atmosphere is calm and welcoming.

Families spend evenings walking along the famous Pine Walk, enjoying an ice cream or watching boats in the marina.

It never feels rushed.

Very much so.

# Cala d'Or

Located on Majorca's south-east coast, Cala d'Or is known for its attractive marina and a series of small sheltered coves.

Unlike resorts with one large beach, Cala d'Or gives families the option of choosing a quieter cove each day.

## Atmosphere

Cala d'Or has a relaxed, upmarket feel.

Although it's popular during the summer, it never feels dominated by nightlife.

Families, couples and returning visitors make up most of the holidaymakers.

## Beach

Instead of one large beach, you'll find several small sandy coves.

These offer:

- Calm water

- Natural shelter

- Soft sand

- Easy swimming

Some families find the smaller beaches feel more manageable than vast open stretches of sand, while others may prefer the extra space available in Alcudia or Playa de Muro.

## Restaurants

The marina and town centre offer an excellent range of family restaurants with plenty of familiar dishes.

## Noise Levels

Generally low.

The marina is livelier during the evening, but accommodation areas remain peaceful.

## Accessibility

Most of the town is easy to walk around, although a few beaches involve steps or sloping paths.

If accessibility is especially important, check your accommodation's location before booking.

## Supermarkets

Several supermarkets provide everything you'll need for a self-catering holiday.

## Medical Facilities

Cala d'Or has pharmacies, medical centres and easy access to healthcare should you need it.

## Is Cala d'Or Suitable for Sensory-Sensitive Children?

Yes.

Children who enjoy quieter surroundings and smaller beaches often settle well here.

If you're looking for a slower-paced holiday with plenty of opportunities for relaxed family walks, Cala d'Or is a lovely option.

Before travelling, it's also worth reading Supporting Your Neurodiverse Child at the Airport and Should You Tell Airlines Your Child is Autistic?, both of which include practical tips for making the journey to Majorca as smooth as possible.

# Cala Millor

Situated on Majorca's east coast, Cala Millor has become increasingly popular with families looking for a traditional seaside holiday. It has a long, sandy beach, a wide pedestrian promenade and a relaxed atmosphere that suits many neurodiverse children.

Although it is a larger resort, it generally feels less hectic than some of the island's busiest destinations, particularly outside the peak summer holidays.

## Atmosphere

Cala Millor has a welcoming, family-focused feel.

The resort centres around its beach and promenade, where you'll find families enjoying evening walks, cyclists using the dedicated paths and children playing in the many parks.

Unlike some resorts, nightlife is limited to a handful of bars and hotel entertainment, helping evenings remain relatively peaceful.

## The Beach

The beach is one of Cala Millor's greatest strengths.

Families can expect:

- A wide stretch of soft golden sand

- Calm, clear water

- Plenty of space even during busier periods

- Lifeguards throughout the summer

- Easy access from the promenade

If your child likes routine, the long promenade also makes it easy to return to the same spot each day.

## Restaurants

Cala Millor offers a wide choice of family-friendly restaurants serving familiar meals, including:

- Pizza

- Pasta

- Burgers

- Grilled chicken

- Fish and chips

- Ice cream

- British breakfasts

Many restaurants have outdoor seating away from loud music, making them more comfortable for children who are sensitive to noise.

## Noise Levels

Noise levels are generally low to moderate.

Hotel entertainment usually finishes by around 10.30 pm, and the promenade becomes much quieter later in the evening.

Choosing accommodation a short walk from the beachfront often provides an even calmer environment.

## Accessibility

Cala Millor is one of the easiest resorts in Majorca to explore on foot.

Families benefit from:

- Wide, flat promenades

- Accessible beach entrances

- Pushchair-friendly walkways

- Plenty of pedestrian areas

## Is Cala Millor Suitable for Sensory-Sensitive Children?

Yes, particularly for families who enjoy spending most of their holiday at the beach.

# Which Type of Accommodation is Best?

By now you've probably noticed there isn't one perfect answer.

The right accommodation depends entirely on your child's needs.

## Hotels

Hotels are often best if your family enjoys:

- All-inclusive dining

- Organised entertainment

- Children's clubs

- Meeting other families

- Minimal cooking

- Easy budgeting

For many families taking their first holiday abroad, hotels provide reassurance because everything is organised in one place.

However, larger hotels can also bring:

- Busier swimming pools

- Queues at meal times

- Louder evening entertainment

- More people sharing facilities

If your child enjoys activity and social interaction, these may not be an issue. If they find busy environments difficult, consider requesting a quieter room away from the main entertainment areas.

## Aparthotels

Personally, I think aparthotels often offer the best balance for neurodiverse families.

They combine hotel facilities with the flexibility of self-catering.

Benefits include:

- Separate bedrooms

- Kitchenettes

- More space to relax

- Flexible meal times

- Hotel pools and entertainment

- Extra storage for snacks and sensory items

Having the option to prepare a familiar breakfast or evening snack can make a huge difference for children with restricted diets.

## Private Villas

Private villas remain one of the most popular choices for families whose children become overwhelmed by busy environments.

Advantages include:

- Complete privacy

- Private swimming pool

- No noisy corridors

- Flexible daily routines

- Quiet meal times

- Plenty of indoor and outdoor space

They're particularly helpful for children who need regular sensory breaks or who find shared hotel facilities overwhelming.
