About Me

Hi, I'm Jennifer

I'm a mum to two amazing neurodiverse children, and like many families, our journey hasn't always been easy.

Over the years we've faced challenges that many parents of neurodiverse children will recognise — navigating nursery and school placements, attending countless meetings, advocating for support, managing meltdowns, and worrying about whether our children are getting what they need to thrive. At times it has felt overwhelming, exhausting, and never-ending.

There have been days when I felt completely drained, wondering where I would find the energy to keep fighting. But somehow, like so many parents, you dig a little deeper and keep going because your children need you. Along the way, I've learned that the people who truly understand are often other parents walking a similar path. They become your village, your support system, and sometimes the reason you get through the toughest days.

Unfortunately, not everyone understands the realities of raising neurodiverse children. Many families have experienced judgement when their child has a meltdown in public, struggles to sit still, or behaves differently from what others expect. I've experienced those moments too, and I know how isolating they can feel. That's why Holidays & Kiddos is built on empathy, understanding, and the belief that every family deserves to feel supported.

The idea for Holidays & Kiddos began with a conversation at the school gates. Like many parents in the UK, we were talking about the weather when I joked that I desperately needed a holiday. Another parent looked at me and quietly said, "I'll never be able to take my child on holiday."

That comment stayed with me.

At the time, I was wondering exactly the same thing about my own children. Could we travel abroad? Would airports be too overwhelming? What if there was a meltdown on the plane? How would we cope with unfamiliar places, routines, and sensory challenges?

I started researching and quickly discovered that there was information available, but it was scattered across dozens of websites, forums, and social media groups. It felt overwhelming, and I often didn't know where to start.

That's why I created Holidays & Kiddos.

If you're new here, I recommend starting with my Getting Started Guide, where you'll find the best resources, travel tips, and articles to help you begin planning your family's journey.

My goal is simple: to bring practical advice, real-life experiences, and trusted resources together in one place for families travelling with autistic children and other neurodiverse kids. Whether you're planning your first family holiday, looking for autism-friendly holidays, managing travel anxiety, or searching for tips to make airports and flights easier, I want this website to help you travel with confidence. If you're looking for a comprehensive place to begin, my Complete Guide to Travelling with an Autistic Child brings together many of the strategies and resources that have helped our family.

I firmly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to experience new places, create memories, and enjoy family adventures. Holidays may look different for neurodiverse families, but they are absolutely possible.

I hope the information, guides, and travel tips on Holidays & Kiddos help your family discover that too.
